OzPolitics Politics Test

Posted by Dave Bath on 2007-07-16

In the interests of disclosure…

The Oz Politics Politics Test put me way on the left although with economic policy relatively centrist (although still on the left).

The "traditional values" scale put me over in the extreme left – although that’s due to my opinions on harm-minimization and the freedoms others should have versus my own behaviour (my ex wife called me a "prude" occasionally).

The survey reports the Greens as being the party closest to my views.  Fair enough, I’ve voted them in the past, but this election I’ll be voting Democrat, because of the excellent bills the Dems have been trying to get up (such as the ones on Cluster Bombs and the Peace Commission).  I haven’t seen the Greens actually put anything up like this, or make a song-and-dance in support of the Dems.

Where I think the survey got it way wrong is placing Family First as more akin to my views than the Libs or the Nats!  Whoa, Nelly!  Also, I’d place a Nat ahead of a Lib if they were both on a ballot – but that’s because of the Nat concerns about rural Australians.

I think the survey could be improved by more questions, especially those that cause internal conflict (such as "unemployment worse than inflation").

Well, no survey is perfect, and it call’s itself "fun" and is in beta.
