Friday sittings: more productive if done right

Posted by Dave Bath on 2008-02-23

Imagine Friday question time, with ministers absent, where the opposition asked insightful questions of import.  Taken on notice, so ministers could provide considered answers at a later date rather than immediately respond with a jibe or ill-considered answer, such questions would remain open, leading to serious discussion on Friday’s "Lateline", the Saturday broadsheets, and the Sunday morning shows for politics junkies.

Thus, the lack of PM and ministers during Friday question time could improve the national debate.

Perhaps the opposition dislikes the Friday sessions because they lack the interest or intelligence to develop substantive questions.
