Giggle Trends: Conroy v Latham

Posted by Dave Bath on 2009-01-19

You’d think Conroy would be the much more "popular" search term than Latham during the last twelve months… but using Google Trends this isn’t the case, especially in WA where Latham outscored Conroy and NSW where they are pretty much the same.

The really interesting thing about the graphs over the fold is that the graph for news articles on Conroy (lower graph) has a very different shape in the last few months than that for web searches (upper graph)… read from it what you will.

Unfortunately, there is no indication about the feeling of searchers when looking for these terms… but we can all guess, can’t we?

There isn’t a sportsperson called "Latham" I don’t know about, is there?

Others among you might want to try trending news articles versus web searches on other terms, to get a feel for how our priorities differ from the MSM’s.

If you do write a post using Google trends with an Australian political bent, especially if you notice significant differences between news articles and searches, feel free to link to your post from here.
