What they play in heaven

Posted by Dave Bath on 2009-03-17

Football for true believers at OnLine Opinion has the following teaser:

Thoughts for the start of the footy season: ‘We don’t know what language will be spoken in heaven but we know what game will be played.’

This reminds me of a quote (I think it was from theologian Karl Barth, and I’m sure I haven’t got it word for word):

When the angels play music to each other, they play Mozart.  When they play to God, they play Bach

And if it was one piece, it would be the B minor/H moll Mass BWV 232.

Of course, as a thorough secularist, I’ll point fellow non-believers to a quote from Douglas Adams of "Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy” fame, which also touches on Bach and the heavens:

Mozart tells us what it’s like to be human, Beethoven tells us what it’s like to be Beethoven, and Bach tells us what it’s like to be the universe. – from wikiquote
