And the Paul Keating Inventive Invective Award goes to…

Posted by Dave Bath on 2009-11-26

At Pharyngula, a comment about trying to engage irrationalists, in this case creationists, but applicable to other domains, is one of the best giggle-inducing bits of invective I’ve seen in a while:

Want another reason to avoid debating creationists?  It’s like giving a mangy, limping, scab-encrusted starving fleabait cat a saucer of milk – you’ll never be rid of the whimpering dependent.

Come on, Dave. PJK was the guy who shoved his Irish Catholic identity into our Constitutional arrangements (despite being a FIFTH generation Aussie), was the Gordon Gecko of markets, and the Paul of Tarsus of Neoliberalism. And yet you think he can score goals against creationists!?

Jayjee: Come on, I reckon Paul would LOVE to have said “Want another reason to avoid debating Xs? It’s like giving a mangy, limping, scab-encrusted starving fleabait cat a saucer of milk – you’ll never be rid of the whimpering dependent.”

Close your eyes, and imagine PJK saying that line…

But yes, not all of what PJK did was good IMHO. And some that was good at the time desperately needed tweaking/redirecting later (Compulsory super: great idea, but should have had more rules put on to avoid bubbles in useless areas).
