John Howard ruins mother’s day and year

On Mother’s Day, how many mums will have to spend time away from kids at short notice because of Howard reforms?

After promising a more family-oriented life and giving lip-service to mothers looking after kids, what is the result of Howard policies on quality time with children?  Mothers, increasingly forced into irregular working hours with short notice, and penalized for taking time off when children become suddenly sick (the typical paediatric pattern), have not been treated well by Howard.

The stand-out economic metric of the Howard years is the dramatic increase in the ratio of current account to trade deficits: something exhibited by no other economy in the league tables of The Economist, yet nobody talks about this.
